Info &nbsp;The Promenade 2018, ETSAV (UPC) + Text The straw bales 2020, Competition - preselected In the North of Vietnam, in a region called La Pan Tan, the landscape is overwhelming. It´s a region of terraced rice fields, placed in a hilly area. The competition asked for a new Tourist Accommodation placed in the fields. The proposal tries to minimize the intervention of the landscape by placing the accommodation where the existing town is, next to the river and the road, served by all the infrastructure needed. In the rice fields, we place distinct pavillions to support both tourists and inhabitants. These pavilions are points of lookout, shadow, washrooms. They are located along the same contour, at 1215 m of altitude.&nbsp; “Amid the rice fields, we place distinct pavillions to support both tourists and inhabitants.” The constructive method of these structures is based on the straw bale, a natural waste of the harvest of nice. It is reused to infill the ballon frame structures, insulating the facade and also bringing more inertia to the building. The circular market 2016, Escola da Cidade (Sao Paulo) Paranapiacaba is located between Sao Paulo and Santos, in a strategical location because it bounds the big metropole with the port city. This small town was established as a company town for the employees of São Paulo Railway, a privately-owned British railway company. A large industrial complex and a British village were built. Nowadays Paranapiacaba is only maintained by tourism. The proposal hopes to push a new economic sector by reactivating the train infrastructure,&nbsp;which will connect&nbsp; the town and bring products from the neighbors' cities. To distribute and sell new products, the proposal focuses on reactivating the old supermarket in the town. It will become a new center for the inhabitants, being a civic building and a plaza at the same time. “The proposal hopes to push a new economic sector by reactivating the train infrastructure.” The concerete stairs 2015, ETSAV (UPC) The neighborhood of Les Planes was born in the mid-twentieth century, with the arrival of families from different parts of Spain, who self-build their own homes. The topography of Les Planes is characterized by being particularly marked, and mobility and accessibility become a problem recognized by neighbors. RUTA RINGO RANGO project aims to improve mobility and promote a fast connection between streets. Studying the urban plan of the site, we discovered a net of public paths crossing the plots. We took these existing ways (named historically ringo rango paths) to locate our intervention. “The project aims to improve the accessibility of Les Planes by building a network of public stairs.” Our team of 25 students planned a 0 cost design using concrete test specimens, which represent a big waste for the construction industry. The construction system doesn´t require mortar and it´s easily reversible. The test tubes are embedded in the ground and fixed between them by filling the voids with small gravel. The entire project was built with our hands and sweat.The project was part of the Spanish Exhibition at the Biennale of Architecture 2018. The project aims to preserve the pre-existing architectural elements of the site. There is an old abandoned factory enclosed by a brick wall, two elements of high architectural value. The new intervention is placed around the existing elements, bringing them more value. The old factory becomes a common area for the students and the neighbors, where they can study and rest. Every floor has also a common area with a kitchen and a rest area to balance out the reduced area of the individual units. “The new intervention is placed around the existing elements, bringing them more value.” The shelters are made of CLT wood structure, supported on a concrete base. This base contains a library and little studio units, naturally lighted. She earned her degree from the ETSAV Vallès School of Architecture (UPC) in 2018 and spent a year living in Sao Paulo while studying at Escola da Cidade. In 2015, she co-founded Amallective, a digital blog featuring curated architectural precedents. During her time at HARQUITECTES, Maria meticulously followed every stage of project development, from initial sketches to on-site construction. While in Vancouver, she contributed to the design of numerous public projects at HCMA Architecture + Design. The &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; river Sallent de Llobregat divides the region into two parts. However, this division is unbalanced: the larger part encompasses all the activities, parks, plazas, and public facilities, while the smaller part has been forgotten and abandoned. The plan involves reorganizing the plaza's layout, reintroducing the two major diagonals that once defined its structure in the early 20th century. The remaining spaces will be repurposed into lush gardens populated with bee-friendly flora, while iconic sculptures will be strategically relocated, with the most prominent placed at the center. A new concrete and glass canopy will cover the central area, creating an underground plaza that seamlessly connects existing metro entrances and a parking lot. This space will accommodate various programs from the old plaza. To preserve the landscape, the hotel proposal places the accommodation in the existing town near the river and road, providing access to infrastructure. In the rice fields, separate pavilions serve tourists and locals as lookout points, shading areas, and restroom facilities, all positioned at 1215 meters altitude along the same contour. Les Planes' rugged topography posed mobility challenges, prompting the RUTA RINGO RANGO project to improve accessibility and facilitate fast connections between streets. By examining the urban plan, we identified a network of public paths, historically known as ringo rango paths, which we utilized for our intervention. Our team of 25 students devised a zero-cost design using discarded concrete test specimens, addressing the construction industry's waste issue. The system, requiring no mortar, is easily reversible: test tubes are embedded in the ground and fixed together by filling voids with small gravel. The project was showcased at the Spanish Exhibition during the Biennale of Architecture 2018.
